finding a home that meets your criteria

When you know exactly what you want in a home, finding that home can be very hard. If you want a home that is a single level with multiple bathrooms and bedrooms of a certain size, it can be nearly impossible to weed through all of the available listings to find that one house that meets your criteria. So how can you make a difficult search a little easier? Our blog will provide you with tips and advice that will help you narrow down your long list of options and find the one home on the market that will meet your needs exactly.

Keeping Ticks And Fleas Out Of Your Home When You Own A Pet

If you live in a wooded area and you have a cat or dog living in your home, a flea or tick problem can be a real risk. Since these parasites carry disease and bacteria, steps should be taken to protect your pet, as well as yourself, from having these bugs embed themselves on exposed skin. Here are some steps that you can take to ensure that fleas and ticks do not become a nuisance by making their way to the inside of your home.

Protect Your Yard

Since fleas and tickets live in trees and in grassy areas, it is important to upkeep your yard to help keep them at bay. Make sure to do routine landscaping throughout the warmer months to reduce their population. Keep grass cut and trim any brush regularly. Pesticides can be used on your lawn to kill off fleas and ticks in large numbers, making it less likely for them to become an infestation in your house. Using green products will ensure that your soil is not contaminated with chemicals. Ask a pest control service for solutions that will not harm your water supply in the process.

Proceed With Caution

If your pet frequents the outdoors, make sure the area where they visit is in an area where pests are less likely to be located. Fence off an area of the yard if you use it for your dog's play area and make sure it was treated appropriately to remove pests beforehand. Do a spot check of your pet's fur when they re-enter your home to make sure that they are not harboring pests that can get into your carpeting or bedding.

If you decide to walk outdoors yourself, dress appropriately to reduce the chance of bringing fleas or ticks back inside with you. Wearing white can help you see these pests much easier. Wear long pants or socks so parasites do not attach to your ankles as you walk through wooded areas. Wear an insect repellent as well. Again, just like with your pet, do a spot check before going into your home.

Treat Your Pet

Repelling fleas and ticks before they become a problem is best. Your pet's veterinarian will be able to recommend an appropriate treatment for flea and tick control. Usually, they will advise you to use a topical treatment on your pet. This can be applied between your cat or dog's shoulder blades and usually offers full protection for about a month. At that time, another treatment would need to be applied. These treatments not only repel, but also kill and existing parasites that may already be in your pet's fur. If your pet has fleas or ticks, wash all bedding and vacuum carpeting often to help remove any eggs or larvae from the home. Click the link to continue reading more.
